Student dissertations will be supervised by members of the teaching staff who will advise on the choice of subject and provide guidance throughout the research process.
Class sizes range from individual supervision up to 12 students. Students attending English Universities may apply for an MLitt in the first instance; for others who have completed two years of a Doctorate such as a PhD or DPhil and who do not wish to, or cannot, continue with the final year s , there is the option to write up their completed research so far and graduate with an MLitt degree. Postgraduate historians work intensively in a variety of subject areas while achieving a steady progression in core fields such as historiography and methodology. Master of Letters
It is designed to function as a kind of half-way house between regular postgraduate teaching and dissertation supervisions. Also known as ‘Index to Theses’. Administrative checks will be carried out to ensure that both print and dissdrtation copies have been submitted within a given period of time.
All theses dated – and some prior to are available from this service. Students must successfully complete credits, of which are earned in taught level modules and 60 in the dissertation.

Double-sided copies are acceptable. University of St Andrews. Special Topics may be taught by individual members of staff or be team- or relay-taught, depending on the expertise disseration.
If you wish to consult a St Andrews thesis please check the Library collections first to discover if a digital copy is available. Individual topics may be taken by up to 4 students and are taught in small discussion groups over the course of six hour-long meetings to ensure anndrews in close teaching, and the module will then be assessed by a single essay of c.
